FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AVON, Conn. (June 13, 2011) – Avon Health Center today announced that long- time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Halina Whalen has been inducted into the Connecticut Certified Nursing Assistant Hall of Fame.
According to Avon Health Center Administrator, “We are extremely proud of Halina. She is an incredible health care professional with an exceptional story.” Whalen came to the United States in 1985 from then-communist Poland, with ten dollars in her pocket, to pursue the American Dream. She had been a nurse in Poland. For several years after arriving here, she cared for an elderly patient to earn money while learning the English language.
In 1988, Whalen joined the staff at Avon Health Center, where she has worked as a CNA ever since. She has passed up opportunities to further her professional education in the US, preferring instead to continue work as a CNA, a career she loves. According to the Center Administrator, “Halina gives of herself ever day. She is a favorite among our patients and our staff, and very deserving of this honor.”
